FAQs
Wedding venue accommodationThe money you paid to stay at the lodge in 2020 is safe with with us. We hadn't paid it to the venue yet (the Irish might infer that it's "resting in our account"). If you come, we’ll pay it to the resort. If you don’t come, we’ll refund it to you.
In August, how do I get to the resort? There are two options, driving or flying:
What time do I need to be there on Friday 9th? Don't stress about being here at an exact time. Your rooms will be available from 3pm. The BBQ shenanigans will kick off around 5-6pm and go til late, but it's a "roll up when you're ready" event!
What time is the wedding on Saturday? The wedding will kick off at 4pm, so you'll have part of the day free to go whale watching/ to the beach etc if you like.
How about Brunch on Sunday? We'll be kicking off Brunch at 10am on the Sunday. If you're the type who gets up early and will be hungry, tough luck :) It'll run from about 10am-2pm. There'll obviously be some hair of the dog happening.. We're sticking around at the resort on the Sunday night to chill with some of the gang, anyone else who wants to do the same is very welcome.
What to wear? We’ll be getting dressed up for the wedding day and we hope you do too. Suits and ties are great. Don’t worry about being overly formal though, just wear what you like and are comfortable in 😍. That nice dress you bought during lockdown with nowhere to go is perfect. Ladies, you’ll be walking on gravel and grass for much of the day so we’d advise wedges, block heels, or flats ;) the weather should be ~20+ degrees and we’ll hopefully be outside through the day and evening, so bring something for when it gets cooler.
Do we need to bring cash etc? You shouldn't need much. The only expense you're on your own for is breakfast/lunch on the Saturday and you can either grab that at the lodge, or drive to a local restaurant or cafe. Drinks and food are covered by us for Friday night, the wedding on Saturday, and Brunch on Sunday.
What about presents? Honestly, we don’t want presents. Everyone is coming a really long way, and spending a lot of cash to get here. We know that might feel awkward for you, but very genuinely, we really don’t need anything and we’d rather you spent the money on a great holiday.
What can I do on the island? There’s a cool beach called Rebecca Spit that’s a 20 min drive away from the resort. You can also book whale watching locally. There are limited shops, taxis, ATMs etc on the island but there is a small supermarket and liquor store if you need to pick up any small things.
How do I pronounce Tsa Kwa Luten? Yah. Took us a while too. It's "SA KWA LOOTIN". It's a First Nations (Canada's indigenous) property, hence the name.
Where should I go before or after the wedding for my holiday? If you have the time, this would be an epic roadtrip. Talk to us about your preferences and we can shorten this for you if needed. The best campgrounds are the government ones, both for backcountry and front country. Private campgrounds are a bit hit and miss.
If you’re looking for places to stay on Vancouver Island to make more of a trip out of the drive up to Quadra, popular spots are Victoria or Tofino.
Where should I stay in Vancouver? We recommend a hotel or airbnb in downtown, the West End, or in the Kitsilano neighborhood. We live at 1988 Ogden Avenue in Kitsilano, if you are aiming to be close by. Make sure to not stay somewhere east of Abbott Street as the neighborhood gets a bit rougher in that direction (completely safe to visit, maybe not so great to stay in).
What about the week before the wedding? We'll hopefully be spending a good chunk of August up at our cabin with our families, but we are aiming to be in Vancouver the week running up to the wedding. We'd love to see you when you arrive, let us know when!
